WHAT’S IN AND WHAT’S OUT: HIGH SCHOOLERS’ PERCEPTIONS OF COOLNESS (Shelby Marie Raye, Manatee High School, Bradenton, FL)
CAREERS IN GENOMICS
Scientists and thousands of other professionals are using discoveries in genetics to revolutionize the world. This means careers in genetics and genomics are booming. And there are many other careers you don’t usually think of as science, like education, social work, and even law and the arts that are affected by this growth, creating even more career opportunities. Innovative, ambitious minds can easily find themselves on the cutting edge of one of the 21st Century’s most exciting fields. You might even be the one who kicks off the next groundbreaking development! Learn more at http://www.genome.gov/GenomicCareers/
LIFE WORKS
LifeWorks is a great resource for teachers to help 8th graders and up explore science related careers. Students can even be ‘matched’ with careers based on their interests and characteristics. They also can see how knowledge of science is useful if they choose to become a firefighter, attorney, artist, or one of more than 100 other occupations. The site has interviews and videos of NIH scientists at work – like this one.
